National Day of Prayer

Posted: Thursday, April 17th, 2008, by Matt
May 1, 2008
12:00 pmto12:39 pm

Thursday, May 1 is the National Day of Prayer.  You are invited to join in this important ministry of all disciples, especially when our nation is struggling with so many issues.  There are two ways you can join in this call to prayer:

On your own at home or wherever you are around noon

Or, come to the church sanctuary to pray with others in a half-hour prayer service.

Either way, we hope you will sign-up at the church after worship services to receive materials to help in prayer and so that you will receive a reminder to pray.  For more information, please contact Rev. Matt Colby

Scout Thank You

Posted: Friday, February 22nd, 2008, by Matt

In February, we celebrated Scout Sunday to support the Scouts that meet at Vista.  On Monday nights, you can see our cub scouts running around for their den and pack meetings.  On Tuesday nights our Boy Scouts meet here.  Rev. Matt Colby, who happens to be the den leader for the Wolf Den, says Scouting continues to be important for family life and helping boys develop into men of character and faith.  Rev. Matt also reports that more families are beginning to join us for other events at our church, and that the comfort level is now there.  Our Scouts are quite active with regular meetings as well as campouts and other special events including the Pinewood Derby which took place in our sanctuary the day before Scout Sunday.  On Monday, February 25th, the cub scouts celebrated their Blue and Gold Banquet with a catered BBQ dinner at Vista.  The Blue and Gold Banquet is the celebration of the birthday of cub scouting.  Between the cubs scouts and boy scouts there are between forty and fifty boys that meet at Vista.  Both groups thank our church and the United Methodist Men for providing the location but more than that for all the support.

Souper Bowl Thank You

Posted: Friday, February 22nd, 2008, by Matt

On the Sunday of the Super Bowl,  Rev. Matt asked the congregation to support our youth who stood after the worship services with soup pots for donations to the Souper Bowl.  The Souper Bowl  program is a grass roots movement started by youth to help alleviate local hunger.  All proceeds collected go to the local hunger program of each youth group’s choice.  Vista youth have always chosen Catalina Community Services, for its long standing focus and expertise in taking care of the people here in our surrounding community.   Rev.  Matt reports that last year the youth were able to send for $480 for food support to CCS, and this year, thanks to your generosity they were able to send over $570.  Our youth want to celebrate with the rest of the church of God’s generosity and your support.
