Don your Sherlock Holmes cap and get out your magnifying glass to solve the case of “The Reading Of Aunt Louise’s Will.”  Several relatives have been invited to dinner for the reading of the will.  Many in this eccentric family hope to gain, but have much to lose if Aunt Louise hasn’t been generous to them.  Please, mark your calendars for this fun evening which will be hosted by our youth group to help fundraise for their summer Mexico Service Project.  Tickets will go on sale soon!  Don’t miss it.

Souper Bowl Thank You

Posted: Friday, February 22nd, 2008, by Matt

On the Sunday of the Super Bowl,  Rev. Matt asked the congregation to support our youth who stood after the worship services with soup pots for donations to the Souper Bowl.  The Souper Bowl  program is a grass roots movement started by youth to help alleviate local hunger.  All proceeds collected go to the local hunger program of each youth group’s choice.  Vista youth have always chosen Catalina Community Services, for its long standing focus and expertise in taking care of the people here in our surrounding community.   Rev.  Matt reports that last year the youth were able to send for $480 for food support to CCS, and this year, thanks to your generosity they were able to send over $570.  Our youth want to celebrate with the rest of the church of God’s generosity and your support.

20008 Youth Choir Tour Wrap Up

Posted: Saturday, January 26th, 2008, by Matt

Our youth choir, HeavenBound, recently returned from the Martin Luther King weekend tour.  This year the choir left on Friday afternoon for Escondido, California.  The choir arrived at First UMC of Escondido to spend the night.  The next morning on Saturday the choir had a great fun day at Knott’s Berry Farm and traveled back to the church to sleep in their fellowship hall once again.  Sunday morning the choir was introduced to a warm welcome at both services in which they sang two songs.  Rev. Bill Colby had served as senior pastor at this church for several years as one of his appointments and this tour was in honor of his memory.  Both Cathy Colby and Rev. Matt Colby were treated to several compliments about the choir and fond remembrances of Pastor Bill in between the services at the patio coffee fellowship.  After, the worship services the choir made the long trek home carrying many good memories of their own from this trip.  Special thanks to Kathy Peate for her many hours of driving and additional adult leadership.  Congratulations, to Cathy Colby, the choir’s director, for making HeavenBound such great ambassadors for Vista!

On Sunday, February 3, you are invited to bring non-perishable food or cash donations (checks made out to Vista UMC) to benefit Catalina Community Services to help wipe out local hunger.  The youth will be out in the narthex with pots to place your donations.  Souper Bowl is a grass roots movement started by concerned youth that has become a national movement to take seriously the poor and hungry in our country.  Last year we were able to help with over $480 and some cans of food to the CCS.
