A Casual Afternoon of Music

Harmonica virtuoso, Pierre Herbineaux, piano soloist accompanist Dr. Raymond Ryder, and the Greater Oro Valley Clarinet Ensemble under the direction of Cyndee Chaffee, will perform Sunday, February 17, 3:00 pm at Vista de la Montana United Methodist.

Church.Pierre Herbineaux was born in Belgium and studied violin as a child, teaching himself harmonica, using his violin method books.  He was the soloist with Trio Canidid who won the world championship harmonica competition in Luxemburg. He has toured Europe and the United States. He amazes his audiences with harmonicas of different sizes.  His virtuoso, yet humane playing has been described as “astonishing.”

Accompanying Pierre and presenting a solo work will be Dr. Raymond Ryder.  Dr Ryder has a private teaching school, serves as adjunct faculty member for Pima Community College. He sometimes provides English translations for the Arizona Opera, and has served as accompanist for the Tucson Masterworks Chorale and the Arizona Choral Society. He also presently serves as organist and hand bell director at Valley Presbyterian Church.

Cyndee Chaffee, well know Tucson musician is the director of the Catalina Community Chorus.  She formed the Clarinet Ensemble of Greater Oro Valley  in 2002 and serves as its director. The ensemble represents a variety of sizes of clarinets from the clarinet family including a Bb contra-bass, two bass clarinets, alto, B-flat and Eb soprano clarinets.  The members tout their return to performance after varying years of hiatus.

Solarzano Concludes Vista Concert Season

Pianist, Jose Solorzano returns to the Vista stage for the season’s final concert on Sunday, April 13, 3:00pm.

Jose Solorzano

Jose was born in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico.  He studied in Mexico, earned his Piano Performance degrees at the University of Arizona School of Music, and,  although participating in and winning several competitions in the United States and Mexico, has made Tucson his home.

He has performed numerous times as soloist and as part of chamber groups.

The afternoon’s program will include Mozart’s Piano Sonata K332 in F Major, Alberto Ginasteras’s Piano Sonata No. 1, and several pieces by Basque born, Mexican by adoption, composer Emiliana Zubeldia.  Also included will be several Chopin Preludes and Chopin’s Scherzo No. 3 in C Sharp minor.

There is no admission charge.  A free will offering will be taken.

In Concert: Flutist L. Chatterton & Harpist C. McLaughlin

Award winning Minneapolis flutist Linda Chatterton teams with Carrol McLaughlin, chair of U of A harp department, in concert January 20, 2pm.

Each artist has performed throughout this country and internationally and both are recipients of numerous awards.

On a more personal note, Ms. McLaughlin, as a pre teenager, traveled 300 miles alone each week in her native Canada to take harp lessons. Her “Harp Fusion” group has appeared on the Vista Fine Arts series in the past to rousing ovations.

Ms. Chatterton has presented her motivational presentation “It Sounded Better at Home!” based on her extensive work on the psychology of optimum performance, all over the country to professional and amateur musicians alike.

Familiar melodies, flashy tangos, intricate music of JS Bach, Bernard Andres, and original compositions of the artists promise something for everyone.

Vista announces its four concert Fine Arts Series for 2007-2008:

  • Sunday, February 17, 2008 - 3;00 pm. Tucson Clarinet Choir, Cyndee Chaffee, Director. Pierre Herbineaux, Harmonica Virtuoso, Pamela Todd, Piano.
  • Sunday, April 13, 2008 - 3:00 pm. Jose Solarzano. Well known classical pianist returns to our stage.
