 I will not be “teaching – only facilitating.  We will study and share together – verse by verse and chapter by chapter.  The purpose is to “know Jesus Christ more clearly, love Him more dearly, and follow Him more nearly.”

‘First Light’ provides an opportunity to closely examine Jesus’ ministry and to discuss the core of his message, the critical words and acts that caught the attention of both Roman and Jewish authorities, resulting in Jesus’ execution.  Come and explore the path to the Kingdom, beginning October 27^th at 3:30 PM.

Gear up campers for our Vacation Bible School Camp E.D.G.E. – Explore and Discover God Everywhere.  Our camp takes place this year from June 15 – 19th, 9:00 am – 12 noon.  It is open to children from age 4 through the end of 5th grade.  Registration forms available in the church office.  Cost:  $10 per child or $20 per family.  Children will receive a tee-shirt and take home CD, along with wonderful crafts they will be making throughout the week.  One highlight will be at the end of the week when Golder Ranch Fire Dept. will come to the parking lot and open up their firehose cannon in the air to rain down on the campers in their swimsuits.  It was awesome last year, and a refreshing. fun treat for the kids (and the parents who got to observe them.  We hope you can join us! 

  

Please gather at the Education Building to receive the rules and your Easter bag.  After the Hunt, we will gather back in the Education room for a closing circle on the meaning of Easter.  Should be over at 10:30 in time to go to worship/SonQuest at 10: 45 am.

Wednesdays  Mar.4 – Apr.1, 4:30 – 5:45 pm

Led by Rev. Matt Colby these five week interactive sessions take you on a journey, a round trip to ancient times, places, and customs, and back again.  Filmed in Israel and Turkey, these powerful DVD sessions taught by insightful teacher Ray Vander Laan  explore what it meant to follow Jesus in the first century—and what it means to follow him today to the land and culture in which the disciples learned to follow Jesus, their Rabbi, so closely that they were covered by the dust kicked up by his feet.

The class is collecting phone cards, gift cards from area stores such as Target, Walmart, and various grocery stores,  New toys are also needed.  The collected items will be delivered, by pre-arrangement, to the head of Family Services at Davis Monthan Air Force Base.

If you wish to share this effort with the children, please send or deliver your gift cards, toys,  and contributions to cover the purchase of cards or toys, to Vista de la Montana United Methodist Church, 3001 E. Miravista Lane, Tucson, 85739.  The church is located just south of Catalina, two tenths mile south of Golder Rd. then west off Oracle.

This will be a special Sunday in which our children’s choir, Kid’s Praise, will help present the morning’s message along with Rev. Matt Colby at both services.  An excerpt from the musical “It’s Cool In The Furnace” about Daniel and his friends will introduce us to discipleship through staying strong in our faith even in adversity.  Don’t miss this uplifting service.

 

Wednesday, March 19^th :  Prayer Walk – A Lenten Journey. 

     

“Faith Lessons on the Life and Ministry of the Messiah” is a five week series that will be offered by Rev. Matt Colby during Lent on Wednesdays,  1:00 – 2:15 pm  beginning on Wed. Feb. 13th.   This series is taught on DVD by Ray Vanderlaan in many Holy Land locations. 

  Ray is one of those rare individuals who not only knows a great deal more about ancient history than most of us, he is gifted with the ability to explain it, make it come alive, and to apply it to life experiences in a way that can inspire us. He takes archaeological and written sources and explains nuances that are seldom mentioned by seminary-trained teachers.  You are welcome to attend all or part of the series.
