Dinner For Eight
Posted: Monday, December 28th, 2009, by NedraInvitation to all Members (Including New Members) : We invite you to join us. This is a wonderful way to meet and get to know the people you see Sunday mornings.
Who May Join: This invitation is for members and non-members, couples or singles (singles do not need to find a partner).
How are groups formed? Members are randomly put into groups of eight.
When do groups meet? There are two sessions: Spring Session (January through April) and Fall Session (September through December). Each group meets monthly (i.e. four times); the time and place is determined by the members of that group. The last of April we will have a final party which includs everyone who has been in Dinner for Eight during the last Fall and Spring session.
Who does the hosting? Each couple or two singles host the dinner once. The host provides the main course and beverages. Other members bring appetizers, salads, desserts or other food as determined within that group. In some cases a group might choose to meet at a restaurant, each paying for their own dinner. Or, a couple may host a picnic, possibly meeting at the host’s home or at church for dessert. Some groups choose to do a lunch. It is flexible.
How do you join? Sign up on the “Sign-Up Sheet” located on the table in the Narthex, or

Mary Martha Circle Field Trip
Posted: Saturday, December 5th, 2009, by Nedra
On November 5th the Mary Martha Circle visited the Summer Linguistics Institute in Catalina. It is also known as Wycliffe Bible Translators. A very informative talk was given about the history of the group and their work around the orld, but especially in Southern Mexico. It was pointed out that one would need to live among the people in their villages for about 4 yrs., and gain the confidence of one or two people to learn their language. Then an alphabet would need to be created, and from that a written language. Finally, after perhaps 5 yrs. or more you would then be able to start translating the Bible into their native language. One member of Mary Martha Circle, Joy Oram, was just such a person. It takes enormous dedication to translate the Bible into just one village language, let alone the numerous dialects that are present in Mexico.
After this talk and tour, the group had refreshments while viewing a video about Youth Haven in Casa Grande, AZ, which Mary Martha helps as our Mission Outreach project.
Those present were:
Back row L-R Delores Brindle, Diane Bynum, Joanne Smith, Betty Layton, Marilyn Waldo, Joy Oram, Rita Bahos, aren Tryon. Front Row L-R Jan Wilson, Betty Little, Jody Obear, Ilene Nevins, Sandy Schwartz, LaVerne Tucker

The Advent Conspiracy, A Preparation for Christmas
Posted: Saturday, December 5th, 2009, by Nedra
A Preparation for Christmas
Rev. Matt Colby will be leading a 4 week small group experience for Advent. In Advent Conspiracy, you are invited to join the groundswell of Christfollowers who choose to make Christmas what it should be-a joyous celebration of Jesus’ birth that enriches their hearts and the world around them, not something that depletes spirits or pocketbooks.
Advent Conspiracy shows how to practice four simple but powerful, countercultural concepts: Worship
Fully-because Christmas begins and ends with Jesus! Spend Less-and free up resources for things that truly
matter. Give More-presence: helping hands, healing words, humble hearts. Love All-the poor, the forgotten,
the marginalized, the sick, in ways that make a difference. It will be offered on Tuesdays from 4:00 -
5:15 pm on Dec. 1, Dec. 8, Dec. 15, and Dec. 22nd.
People are welcome to attend for some or all sessions.
VISTA BOOK CLUB
Posted: Saturday, December 5th, 2009, by Nedra
We will not meet the month of December. Our next
meeting will be January 21. 2010 at 5:30 p.m. in the
Education Building. All adults are welcome.
The book for January is Sarah’s Key by Titiana
de Rosnay. Ms. de Rosnay writes a compelling story
about Sarah who desperately tries to protect her younger
brother when the French police arrest Jewish families
one night. Vowing to come back to get him as soon as
she and her parents are released, she locks him in their
secret hiding place. Sixty years later, Julia Jarmond, an
American journalist investigating the roundup, discovers
a trail of secrets that link her to Sarah, and to questions
about her own future.
To RSVP or if you have questions, call Kay
Gragg, facilitator, at 544-2545.
